Submission Guidelines

The Adventurous Pen is seeking submissions for fiction, non-fiction, photography and poetry with an adventurous element.

We will consider any creative and well-written submissions that are previously unpublished and meet our guidelines. We do not care if a contributor is established or not; the work will speak for itself.

We do not accept previously published work, but simultaneous submissions are okay if you let us know. Please inform us immediately if your story is accepted elsewhere.

At present, our payment is in exposure to an audience already looking for someone to sweep them away. The contributor maintains all rights to their work. The Adventurous Pen purchases one-time, non-exclusive rights.

Fiction
We are looking for short fiction submissions under 3,000 words that contain an element of adventure. Exceptional stories up to 7,000 words may also be considered, though we prefer brevity.

Non-fiction
We are looking for non-fiction stories of adventure under 5,000 words. Stories must be from your own experience and told in first-person.

Poetry/Prose
We are looking for poetry and prose under 40 lines. Poems can reflect the author's style, but must paint a scene or tell a story with an element of adventure.

Photography/Artwork
We are looking for photography and artwork that depicts an inspiring scene of adventure or travel. Submissions must be in .jpeg/.jpg format.

Submissions should be in .rtf format, 12 pt font, Times New Roman, single spaced between words and double spaced between paragraphs. No indention, please. Include a cover letter and bio in the body of the email.

Response time is 1-14 days.
